Pianist/Vocalist Liz Fixsen has been a part of the Baltimore jazz scene for many years,  participating in jazz sessions at many venues and playing piano at numerous private functions. She studied jazz piano under Kyle Coughlin at Howard Community College, under Dave Ballou at Towson University, privately with Alan Blackman, and in Jeff Antoniuk’s Jazz Band Master Class. She studied voice with Baltimore vocalists Felicia Carter and Irene Jalenti. As a vocalist, she has performed in Baltimore at An die Musik, Woodberry Kitchen, Trinacria Café, and The Corner Bar. She has also performed in Ellicott City at Little Market Cafe, Syriana Cafe, and Leelynns, and in Columbia at Jazz’s Island Soul Cuisine.  She has run a monthly jam session in Baltimore for many years, currently at Terra Cafe. She edits and writes for the Baltimore Jazz Alliance (BJA). Her original composition “Ballad for Bill” was included in the BJA’s second compilation album, Baltimore Jazzscapes II. As a jazz vocalist, she brings a narrative sense to her songs, finding humor, pathos, mystery and delight in their portrayals of nature and their timeless stories of friendship and love, lost and found.
Joshua Goldberg, clarinet and saxophone, can often be found at the Django Jazz Jam in Hampden.  He’s studied jazz saxophone and clarinet in Boston and Indiana with Douglas Yates, Pat Harbison, Tom Walsh and David Baker.  More- and less-eclectic stage associations include the Saxophone Cartel, Charm City Klezmer, Afro Hoosier International, Uncle Ira’s Hebrew Washboard Ensemble, the Steven J. Walther Orchestra, the Solomon Douglas Swingtet, the Born-again Floozies, the Fabulous Fleamarket Band, the Barrage Band Orchestra, the Pirate Flags, and Kid Kazooey and the Ballroom Roustabouts.

Bassist Kai Knorr often plays in the house band at the Bluebird Cocktail Room’s gypsy jazz jam and is a member of Appalachian string band Big Cricket. He began studying jazz and orchestral upright bass in his hometown of San Francisco at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts. After attending college in New Mexico, where he delved into country blues fingerpicking guitar, he played roots, blues, and rock music in Santa Fe dive bars. Seduced by its Old Time string music scene, he moved to Baltimore last year and is immersing himself in its eclectic and welcoming musical community.

The Concerts in the Courtyard regular season runs April – October, Friday, Saturday & Sunday
